Moses and stuff

I don't quite know how to describe my feelings and thoughts about what I've read in Exodus, but I'm going to put down the actual verses I have a problem with, and see how things emerge from my confusing mind.

Exodus 32:27-29

27 And he said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and aslay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.
28 And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
29 For Moses had said, aConsecrate yourselves to day to the Lord, even every man upon his bson, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a cblessing this day.

O.o and, WTF?!  And AHHH!!  OMG too!  I am shocked, and bewildered, I never Ever heard about this in Sunday School at Church, no one ever mentions it.  People talk all the time about how Moses came down from the mountain with the commandments, saw the golden calf that everyone was worshiping, got mad at everybody, threw the stone tablets, destroyed the golden calf, and went back up the mountain again to get a new set written out.  First of all, it was stupid to get mad and destroy the commandments GOD HIMSELF wrote down on stone with his own Godly finger.  And it must have taken bawlz to walk up that mountain again to ask for another set.  But this here, commanding his people to slaughter each other?!  That is extremely disturbing to me.  I can barely find words to explain what I'm thinking.  Just.... ufdah, that hurts my head.

So, uhm.... ok, I gotta say, I really really don't like this God guy, this guy makes me mad.  and you know what, earlier he had to be convinced to "repent" and not do the "evil" he was thinking of doing.  Here, I'll show you.

Exodus 32:12-14

12 Wherefore should the aEgyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, band crepent of this evil against thy people.
13 Remember aAbraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou bswarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will cmultiply your dseed as the stars of heaven, and all this eland that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.
14 aAnd the Lord brepented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

And that's not the only place in the Bible where it talks about God Repenting, there is also the big Flood thing, where God is so sad about flooding and drowning most of the people on earth that he Repented and set a rainbow in the sky as a sign that he would never do that again.  Great.  Thanks dude.  I like rainbows, and I like knowing we aren't going to go through a global flood that kills everybody.  Nice.  But, wow, I really don't like the mean and nasty God of the Old Testament at all.

I mean, why would I follow a bully like that?  Do what I say, or I smash you to bits?!  I'd say, go right ahead and smash away, fraker!  I'm not saying I like pain and suffering, I'm just bull headed when it comes to bullies who expect blind obedience, Just cause they can wipe the floor with me any time they want.  No way, not gonna happen.  I'm also of the strong mindset that if someone tries to threaten me, or my family and friends, in order to make me do something I am strongly morally opposed to, I'd tell them off and say goodbye to my dear friends and family.  There is no way in this life time I am going to betray my principles and bow down to bullies.  I've had more than enough bullying in my life, I'm sick to my stomach of it, and I won't budge.

If you give me a choice between doing something I am totally opposed to, or death, I'll pick death, thanks.  If that makes me brave, whatever.  Stubborn is more like it.  If God himself told me to put my son, which I don't have yet, up on a stone alter and stab him to death as a sacrifice, I'd say Screw you, not gonna happen!  If he struck me with lightning for my disobedience I'd go to the afterlife ticked off at him, but pretty happy with my choice anyway.  And that's just how it is.  I will not be the coward, the push over, the guy that no one can depend on for anything.  I will stand and be smashed to bits, and be glad I did it.

Anyway, I'm rambling a lot I guess.  Time to go watch TV and stop thinking so much about this stuff.
